Watershed Map Design

Forgotten Reach of the Pecos River Watershed Model

Client: Friends of the Pecos River | 2025

A 3D watershed model for the Forgotten Reach of the Pecos River is designed for use as a mobile hands-on educational exhibit.

LVB assisted the Friends of the Pecos River in their mission to engage students in watershed education by designing a map for a physical model.  A tabletop-size watershed model of the Forgotten Reach of the Pecos River allows students to interact with the landscape by pouring water onto its surface.
The model was constructed and painted by Paul Bond, and topographical modeling contours were prepared by Shawn Vickers. LVB prepared the geospatial basemap in ArcGIS Pro and designed the 2D map graphic in Adobe Illustrator to show the basin’s subwatersheds, rivers, creeks, salt flats and dry arroyos, historic landmarks and trails, existing and historic springs, and above-ground land uses such as irrigated agriculture and renewable energy.
