ABOUT LVB
Lauren V. Brown (LVB) founded LVBrown Studio in 2014 to bring creative, conceptual problem-solving to environmental projects. Her work combines landscape architectural design, mapping and illustration, and environmental interpretation to help clients understand, communicate, and imagine the future of the places and natural systems they work to protect and enhance.
Lauren draws from more than twenty years of experience spanning professional landscape architecture, watershed science, and applied work in river and ecological restoration. After an eight-year landscape architecture career with the award-winning SWA Group in Houston, Lauren headed north to study watershed sciences and ecological restoration at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her interdisciplinary education, combined with a three-year design position with the nationally renowned river and wetland restoration firm Inter-Fluve Inc., gave her practical experience applying scientific knowledge to real-world restoration projects.
For LVB, the pencil is not simply a tool for illustrating an idea. It is often where an idea begins to emerge. The magic happens when the pencil hits the page. By bringing together site conditions, technical information, and project and stakeholder goals, she begins to see relationships, make connections, and explore new possibilities. Her process is hands-on and iterative. As ideas take shape on paper, new connections emerge, possibilities become visible, and larger concepts begin to form.
LVB uses a blend of spatial analysis, GIS mapping, hand-drawn and digital illustration, graphic design, and interpretive planning to help project teams analyze, problem-solve, and communicate complex ideas. This work takes many forms—from master and concept plans to illustrated maps, interpretive exhibits, and environmental visual graphics and narrative. The resulting design deliverables support audience engagement, education, project planning, and stakeholder support by transforming complex information into tangible solutions and impactful communication tools.

About LVB’s Design Process
All LVB design projects move through three phases of design beginning with project understanding, design ideation, and final art production.
The Project Understanding phase involves reviewing project goals and desired outcomes, gathering relevant data and imagery, preparing project basemaps, and sifting through background materials to develop an outline for the project or story.
The Design Ideation phase is where the pencil hits the page (or tablet), and ideas emerge in visual form in pencil sketches and color washes, storyboards and rough mockups. This is an iterative design phase where we review drafts and test design solutions.
Once the design drafts are approved, the project moves into Final Production, where LVB refines the narrative copy and illustrated artworks, prepares final graphic design formatting, copy-editing and proofing, and packages the final deliverables.
**While aspects of the design phases overlap, it’s important for the client to share relevant data during the Project Understanding phase and provide approval on drafts before moving to Final Production in order to stay within the estimated project time and budget.
