Center for Limnology Interpretive Signage Design

Client: Center for Limnology, UW-Madison | 2024

UW-Madison’s Center for Limnology (CFL) invited LVBrown Studio to write and design two interpretive signage displays for the Center for Limnology’s (CFL) Lake Mendota overlook as part of the University’s 175th-anniversary celebration. CFL staff challenged LVB to summarize the 125-year history of limnology (the study of inland waters) and the ongoing story of change in Lake Mendota—one of the most studied lakes in the world.

Lauren synthesized information from interviews with limnology staff, review of historical publications, CFL and Wisconsin Historical Society photo archives, and her experience with both subjects into a visual and written narrative for the railing-mount displays. Final print fabrication by Pannier Graphics and installation by the University.
