Lake Forest Nature Preserves Interpretive Signage

Client: Lake Forest Open Lands Association | 2025

Lake Forest Open Land Association commissioned LVBrown Studio to write and develop two interpretive signage displays for the Derwen Mawr and Middlefork Savanna nature preserves. The first sign celebrates the opening of the preserve system’s first accessible trail in honor of a local conservation hero, Jamee Field. The second documents the 50-year conservation story of the 600+ acre Middlefork Savanna Preserve, which saved a scenic greenbelt and relic tallgrass savanna plant community from the bulldozer of development.

Lauren performed a document review of archival materials (reports, maps, photos), conducted further research, and interviewed members of the original preservation committee to create a draft storyline and source imagery. LVB wrote the interpretive narrative, created panel concepts, designed new maps and developed the graphic display for two 26×42 inch outdoor panels located near the preserve trailheads.
